My Family donated on my Birthday

Posted by Dorish on January 13, 2012

It was a rainy and windy birthday ride for me. A birth day spent with my handsome baby boys and my lovely husband. We spent half of the day driving around the city of Port Moresby. Braved the rain and the wind and through the rain with the car stereo on the volume, my babies shaking it to the tunes as we drove against the wind.

What made that day more special and satisfying to me was; meeting a very special and dedicated woman yet a total stranger. I came across her page on Facebook and was extremely impressed with the information she provided on her information page. I found out that she runs a non-profitable organisation at one of the notorious suburbs of Port Moresby. I interestingly browsed through her page and found out also that her and her supportive husband are the founders of the The children University if Music and Arts.I further read that CUMA is not funded by the PNG Government or any other aid agencies.

Apart from providing music classes, CUMA also has programmes designed for youths too, to keep them off the streets.

So I excitedly got the contacts off her page, and called her and asked to meet with her. She graciously accepted.
The day of my birthday, after confirming our timings, we drove up. I nervously got out of the truck and approached her and shyly said (almost like a whisper), Lydia? “Yes!” with a big welcoming smile and she went, “Dorish?” Before I could answer, we shook hands and then hugged as I led her towards the vehicle. I introduced Lydia to my family.

My son and I meet Mrs Lydia Kailap for the first time

Amazingly the rain stopped and the wind disappeared. After much chatting, My family and I gave her 3 bags full of our used clothes and some cash towards her school. She was very thank full and invited us a tour of her place. Lydia sells greetings card, which she makes at home and sells to sustain her work. she intends to open a Take-Away food shop soon.

Meeting Lydia Kailap and giving those orphanage children what most of us take for granted was more than satisfying. For my family and I,that was special and real from the bottom of our hearts. I will consider it a Birthday Gift! Strange, but true!
