Tatami Mat
Posted by Dorish on March 24, 2007
In one of the rooms in our new home to be, has the Tatimi mats. These tatimi mats are very expensive so am told.
Tatimi mats are used today in both traditional and modern Japanese homes. Infact it has been used for more than hundred years and was originally a luxury item used by emperors, nobles, religion leaders and high ranking officals. But today the mats are found almost in all Japanese homes, restraunts, sporting clubs etc.
Traditionlly ,the mats were used only for sitting purposes, today it widely used for, walking, sleeping and playing on.
Tatimi mats are made of woven straw and traditionally packed with rice straws.
